The Dallas hearing office
Social Security hearings for the Dallas–Fort Worth area are held through the Office of Hearings Operations. If your claim reaches a hearing, this is where an administrative law judge will decide it — and it is the stage at which a large share of claims are finally approved.
How long the wait is
Wait times vary by office and change through the year. Social Security publishes average processing times for each hearing office; we link the current figure and review it quarterly rather than quoting a number that goes stale.
In person or by video
Hearings may be held in person, by video, or by telephone. You can object to appearing by video. We talk through which format suits your circumstances before the notice arrives.

Who qualifies
Social Security considers you disabled if a medical condition keeps you from working enough to earn more than a set monthly amount (about $1,690 in 2026) and that condition has lasted, or is expected to last, at least 12 months or result in death. You do not have to wait 12 months to apply.
Not sure which? Answer 5 questions →No attorney fee unless you win
No attorney fee unless you win. If you win, Social Security approves our fee and pays it directly out of your past-due benefits — currently the lesser of 25% of past-due benefits or $9,200. If there are no past-due benefits, there is no attorney fee under our standard agreement. You may be responsible for out-of-pocket costs such as medical-record copy fees; we explain any costs in writing before you sign anything. Figures as of January 2026.
Common questions
How long do I have to appeal a Social Security disability denial?
Generally 60 days from the day you receive the denial notice. Social Security assumes you received it 5 days after the date on the letter. If you miss the deadline, you may still be able to show "good cause," so call an attorney right away.
How much does a Social Security disability lawyer cost?
Under a standard fee agreement, there is no attorney fee unless you win. Social Security approves the fee and pays it from your past-due benefits — the lesser of 25% or $9,200 (2026). You may owe small costs such as medical-record copy fees.
Do I need a lawyer for my Social Security disability hearing?
You are not required to have one, but a representative can gather medical records, obtain doctor opinions, prepare you for the judge's questions, and question the vocational expert. Attorney fees are paid only if you win, from past-due benefits.
How long does the Social Security disability process take in Texas?
An initial decision often takes several months; reconsideration adds more; and hearing wait times vary by office. Check the current average for the Dallas hearing office on Social Security's public processing-time page, which we link and update quarterly.
